Besides helping us build a base of support
this year so that we can move forward in building awareness
of Africa, we are also helping on the ground. This year ten
percent of what we collect will be given to a struggling orphanage
in Kissi, Kenya. The Kenyan New Church Orphanage was founded
in 2002 by my friend and colleague, the Rev. Khalid Obiri.
Many people in Kenya are living in very poor conditions and
are dying of diseases. Because of this, children whose parents
had died have been coming to Khalid in search of food and
shelter. Despite limited resources, Khalid would not turn
these children away. Today he has over thirty children in
his care. Rev. Obiri's selflessness is an inspiration to us
all and it is in this spirit that we are giving ten percent
of what we receive for raising awareness of the African plight
to help Khalid and the children of his Kenyan orphanage.
